Shopify design & development for yerbe mate energy drinks
Overview
Hearth is an energy drink co-founded by Charan Gill and Alexis Mac Allister, that provides an alternative to mainstream options using Yerba Mate to provide a steady and long-lasting energy release.
Hearth approached us while they were going through a rebrand, and asked us to provide brand and eCommerce consultancy, a complete redesign and redevelopment of their website on Shopify, and a revamp on their CRM ensuring the best commercial practices.

Website Design
Starting with their bold new packaging design, we wanted to ensure the website communicated the energy the drinks provide, so we utilised the new colour palette. Additionally to make sure there was a more natural, grounded feel we introduced a series of textured backgrounds created using slow shutter speeds, which bring movement and energy in a calmer way. We added motion to key elements, animating a graph explaining the concept along with their key USPs. We adapted the design along the process to work with Alexis Mac Allister’s schedule.
Feature - Build a Box
Increasing average order value was key for this client, and for packaging reasons we had key box increments that needed to be filled. We suggested a Build a Box solution, allowing users to mix and match the flavours they want. Our design makes it easy for users to fill their box, and has been very successful. From the launch weekend over 95% of sales were Build a Box orders, which shows the appeal of a custom box, and also fulfils the client’s AOV targets.
Feature - Quick Add
The client asked for Quick Add functionality on the product cards on the homepage, however given the multiple choices for pack sizes and purchase frequencies we didn’t want to limit the users' options by making the decision for them. We created an overlay to allow users to quickly add their chosen options without having to visit the product page, which works well on desktop and mobile devices.
